Stilo ST5 FN 8860 ABP Racing Helmet

The Stilo ST5 FN 8860 ABP helmet has been designed with the new regulation for single seater formula cars in mind where a driver still remains relatively exposed when sat in the car. The ABP (advanced Ballistic Protection) standard was created in 2018/2019 by the FIA in response to some large accidents that happened in F1 where foreign objects were able to cause considerable damage to the exposed helmet shell above the visor aperture, and it was deemed that extra strength was needed in this area of the helmet. 

The tests involved for an ABP helmet are incredible and involve shooting metal objects at the test helmet at 250kph and also sending a large hydraulic ram into the helmet from a height. A different chin strap mechanism is used Stilo was the first helmet manufacturer to pass these tests and to homologate an ABP helmet. Stilo ST5 ABP helmets are used in F1 in the present day. 

The ST5 FN ABP enjoys all the benefits of the FN range with the the narrower shell which is better for aerodynamics in an open wheel car. 

The helmet  is fitted with a full clear ABP specific visor and locking pin as standard, but it can be upgraded to our coloured ABP visors. The FN ABP is fitted with HANS posts as standard. 

The helmet can be retro-fitted with one of our Stilo comms kits at a later date if required, and prepared for use with either ear plugs or ear cups, purchased separately. Visor tear-offs, spoilers and other aero can be purchased separately. 

We have found this is a very popular helmet in historic endurance racing, single seaters (inc British F4) and hillclimb. As required in all series including F1, F1, F3, F1 Academy, European F4 and many more.
